Fuel spill snarls 58

A gasoline spill on U.S. 58 closed the southwest bypass ramp and one eastbound lane this morning.
A tractor-trailer carrying lumber became disabled when its fuel tank was punctured, according to Debbie George, Suffolk spokeswoman.
The puncture was caused by what appeared to be a 12-inch blade, George said. While the specific origin of the blade is unknown, it appeared to be from a “lawnmower or something along those lines,” she said.
No one was injured in the accident.
The incident was reported at 6:01 a.m. and roadways were reopened around 12:30 p.m.
A wrecker was called for the vehicle and crews specializing in hazardous materials were called to the scene.
