The Suffolk Humane Society had a packed house last week for its first auction and fashion show fundraiser.

More than $2,500 will go to the society’s coffers from the silent and live auctions. The society still is determining proceeds from jewelry and clothing sales by Vicki Russo, who is donating her part of the proceeds to the society as well.

“We had lots of wonderful auction items,” said Kay Hurley, a humane society volunteer. “We’re hoping we can build on this in the future.”

Proceeds from the event will help put on the society’s annual Mutt Strut in September, which is its main fundraiser of the year. The society provides spay/neuter programs, humane education and promotes adoptions and responsible pet ownership in Suffolk.

Last week’s event, held at the First Lady in downtown Suffolk, featured local models showcasing fashions providing by Vicki Russo, a fashion consultant representing Carol Anderson by Invitation. More than 70 attendees bid on auction items included one-of-a-kind jewelry, car washes, spa certificates, dinner for two cooked in the winner’s home, and more.

Hurley said the catering, done by the First Lady, was “amazing,” and also noted volunteer auctioneer Mike Duman and the volunteer bartenders did a good job.

Hurley said the society hopes to make the fundraiser an annual event.

In addition to the First Lady and Vicki Russo, the event was sponsored by Kathy Bass, Just for the Health of It Massage Therapy and Bodyworks; Matt Flauter, Guardian Life; Andrea Langley, Aflac; Rebecca Keeling Studios; and Lindsey Corter, LBC Jewelry Designs.
