A 20-year-old Suffolk woman has been charged with two counts of felony child neglect after allegedly leaving her two small children home unattended.

Jasmine T. Davis, of the 500 block of Mason Avenue, was arrested on Monday and was being held on a $5,000 bond at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail, according to Suffolk officials.

Police were called to Davis’ home Saturday evening when the father of one of the two children — ages 2 and 3 — visited the home and found the two girls there without their mother, Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George said in a press release.

When he arrived at the house at about 5 p.m. Saturday, the father heard a child crying, but he could not get anyone to answer the door. He then went to the rear of the residence, and the 3-year-old walked outside. His 2-year-old was located upstairs. Neither child had been harmed.

Officials were unable to determine how long the girls had been unattended, and attempts to contact Davis were unsuccessful, George said in the press release.

In addition to the criminal charges, Child Protective Services was notified and is conducting an investigation.
