Robert “Bobby Ray” Boone Sr., 72, of 104 Lewis Ave., entered the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, May 5, 2010. He was born on Feb. 11, 1938 to the late John Boone and Annie Powell Boone in Smithfield, Va.
He was a very devoted self-employed truck driver for more than 20 years before retiring.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Thorne and Bessie Bond, and a nephew, Junie Bond.
Left behind to cherish his beautiful memory are his loving wife of 25 years, Barbara; children, Robert D. Boone, Shenita B. McKeller (Kendall), Barbara Stephenson (Joseph), Renee Boone, Robert Ray Boone Jr., Charles Boone, Barbara Jean Boone, Joniran Boone; sister, Eleanor “Baby Sis” Clark; brother, Joseph Boone (Loretta); brother-in-law, Edward Thorne; aunt, Blannie Majette; grandchildren, Estarla (Gabriel), La’Barbara, Larita, Aryanna and Joseph; and a host of other family and friends.
Mr. Boone will be on view from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 9 at the funeral home. The family will receive visitors at 1811 Mountain Side Ave. at all other times. A service of remembrance will take place at 1 p.m., Monday, May 10 at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries, Bishop Madison Copeland, eulogist. The family will assemble at noon Monday at the residence for the procession to the church. He will be laid to rest in the T.E. Cooke-Overton Garden of Carver Memorial Cemetery.
