Former Cavalier in NCAA regional meet

Hampton junior Predist Walker (Lakeland) is competing in two events in the NCAA Division I East Regional Championships in Greensboro, N.C. today through Saturday.
Walker is in the 110-meter hurdles after winning the MEAC championship with a season-best time of 13.83 seconds.
Walker’s also on the Pirate 4×100 relay team. The Pirates set a school record and meet record at the MEAC Championships with a time of 39.71.
Walker and the Pirates are trying to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. June 9-12.
VMI’s baseball team split its first two games in the Big South Tournament. The No. 6 seed Keydets beat UNC-Asheville 7-4 Tuesday, but lost 11-2 to No. 1 (No. 4 nationally) Coastal Carolina Wednesday afternoon in Rock Hill, S.C.
Former Nansemond River players Justin Topping, Erickson Keeton and Ombri Rivers are on VMI’s team. The Keydets (33-21) play an elimination game Thursday at 11 a.m.
No. 1, nationally and in the conference, Virginia beat No. 8 seed Boston College 6-4 in the opening game of the ACC Baseball Championship in Greensboro, N.C. Wednesday.
BC (29-27) took a 4-3 lead with three runs in the seventh. The Cavaliers (46-10) answered with three runs in the eighth to go on and win.
Junior Matt Hamlet (Nansemond-Suffolk) played second base and hit second, but went 0-for-4 at the plate, for BC. The Eagles play Miami Thursday.
