Two 15-year-old students were charged with attempted arson after an incident at Nansemond River High School on Tuesday.
The girls are alleged to have lit paper on fire and then placed the burning paper into a locker, according to a report from Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George.
The school was evacuated for a short time, while Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded, George said in a press release Tuesday evening. The fire was quickly extinguished without damage or injury.
Both of the girls were taken into custody, charged with one count each of attempted arson and later released to their parents.
Suffolk public schools spokesperson Bethanne Bradshaw said the students have been suspended with a recommendation that they be expelled, according to the release.
