Suffolk Presbyterian Church recently awarded two $2,000 scholarships to two Suffolk high school graduates.
Alyssa Dawn Chirico, the daughter of Anthony and Brenda Chirico, graduated from Lakeland High School and plans on attending Virginia Wesleyan College.
Darian Nicole Barnes, the daughter of Michael and Monica Barnes, graduated from King’s Fork High School. She plans to attend James Madison University.
Suffolk Presbyterian Church, 410 N. Broad St., administers the scholarships to serve Suffolk Public School graduates pursuing postsecondary education. The scholarship funds were established by the late Edith Volper Buttafoco in memory of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert C. Volper, and by the late Violet Volper Pond in memory of her daughter, Brenda Beamon Willis. Each scholarship will be paid over the course of two years to the recipient’s college.
