Lemuel Halford “Hal” King, 76, of Shipman, died Friday, July 2, 2010 at the Lovingston Healthcare Center.
Born Dec. 10, 1933 in Suffolk, he was the son of the late Moscoe J. King and Sallie Blanchard King.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann King, in 1978, and a brother, Moscoe J. “Jack” King Jr., in 2006.
Hal is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn M. King; a daughter, Karen K. Rodgers and her husband, Gillies, of Shipman; a brother, Ronald B. King and his wife, Emily, of Suffolk; a sister-in-law, Barbara H. King, of Texas; and two grandsons, Thomas A. Rodgers and Stephen A. Rodgers, of Shipman.
Hal retired from Virginia Power in 1992 as a meter reader. He was a member of Rock Spring United Methodist Church.
He joined the Hiram Masonic Lodge No. 340 AF & AM in Suffolk and later transferred his membership to the Rockfish Masonic Lodge No. 108 AF & AM after moving to Shipman.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 5, 2010 at Rock Spring United Methodist Church in Faber with the Revs. Pam Baldwin and Adam White officiating. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Rockfish Masonic Lodge No. 108 AF & AM.
The family will receive friends after the service at the Faber Rescue Squad.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery in Suffolk with the Rev. Dan Abbott officiating. Masonic graveside rites will be accorded by Nansemond Masonic Lodge No. 77 of Suffolk.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Hal’s name be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 332 Eighth Avenue 7th Fl., New York, NY 10001 or the American Lung Association, 9702 Gayton Rd., #110, Richmond, VA 23238.
