A man who stopped to help a fellow citizen was robbed on Nansemond Parkway Wednesday evening.
The victim told police he was traveling southbound on the highway in the 1700 block when he saw a black male flagging him down.
“He thought the individual needed some type of assistance,” city spokeswoman Debbie George said.
Instead of asking for help, however, the suspect produced a black handgun and demanded money. When the victim said he had only $5, the suspect said that he would take drugs or weapons instead. The victim said all he had was his cell phone, and the suspect took the cell phone.
The man then told the victim to put his head down, count to 10 and drive away. The victim went to a nearby gas station and called police.
The only available description of the suspect is that he is a black male who had his face covered, George said.
