A Suffolk grand jury indicted 47 defendants on a total of 135 charges this week, including a man accused of abducting two women in Portsmouth and forcing them to drive to Suffolk on July 4.
Prosecutors allege William Elwin Boyd, 23, abducted two women at gunpoint at a convenience store in Portsmouth and forced them to drive to Suffolk early that morning. The incident ended around 3:30 a.m. on the holiday, when the vehicle collided with a power pole on Whaleyville Boulevard.
The suspect escaped the wreckage, triggering a 10-hour manhunt that ended with Boyd’s capture in a wooded area off the 5000 block of Whaleyville Boulevard.
Boyd is charged with 11 firearms, abduction, rape and sodomy charges.
