A four-vehicle accident in the 4100 block of Holland Road snarled traffic on the highway for hours Monday night.
The accident occurred about 5:33 p.m. at the road’s intersection with Chappell Drive.
Two of the vehicles were commercial vehicles, including one tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Joseph Emmett Cook of Lawrenceville, was charged with reckless driving following the accident.
According to the accident report, April Lynn Wade of Isle of Wight County was stopped to make a legal U-turn. The other drivers, Yolandah Lee-Brown, of Franklin, and Li Guoqiang, of Renton, Wash., were slowing down.
City spokeswoman Debbie George said Cook “did not notice the vehicles in front of him slowing and stopping.” His tractor-trailer collided with the box truck driven by Guoqiang, and then continued on to hit the other two vehicles. The tractor-trailer then crossed the median and went partially into the wooded area on the side of the road, blocking the eastbound lanes.
