To go with the Southeastern District regular season and tournament championships, Lakeland’s field hockey team earned numerous individual honors for the district season last week.

At the top of the list, senior midfielder Kelsey Smither earned the Southeastern District Player of the Year award for the third straight season. Smither has committed to a scholarship with Old Dominion, where her older sister Katelyn was a standout for four years.

Lakeland head coach Tara Worley is the Southeastern District Coach of the Year. Worley’s coached the Lady Cavs to 11 straight season titles in the district and 10 straight SED Tournament titles.

Thirteen Lakeland players made one of the all-district teams. Every player on the first team hails from Lakeland, Western Branch or Hickory.
