Incumbent Charles Brown won his bid for re-election to his fifth term on the City Council Tuesday over challenger Bill Newsome.

Brown, an instructor at Northrop Grumman’s Apprentice School, represents the city’s Cypress borough. His campaign emphasized new projects in his borough, like the East Suffolk Recreation Center, that have been finished in the last four years.

Newsome, a political newcomer, was formerly a teacher.
