Police investigate bank robbery

Suffolk police are requesting assistance from the public in investigating a bank robbery.

Police say that a man entered the Bank of Hampton Roads in the 2800 block of Godwin Boulevard just before 4 p.m. Friday. He approached the counter, produced a handgun and demanded money from the teller.

The suspect was given money, which he placed in a bag. He then fled the building and may have been seen getting into an older model, two-tone Bronco II-type SUV.

The man is described as white, about 30-40 years old, with scruffy facial hair and thick-rimmed glasses. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a brown “Southpole” pull-over, and orange or red knit hat and brown boots.

Anyone who has information is asked to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. Callers to Crime Line never have to give their names or appear in court, and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
