Holt, formerly the city’s business development analyst, has been with the city since April 2000. She steps into the position she has filled on an interim basis since Kevin Hughes was promoted to economic development director.

“Deanna Holt’s passion for partnering with the Suffolk business community makes her a tremendous asset for the Department of Economic Development Team,” Hughes said. “Her professionalism and ability to problem solve make her a true business advocate for the Suffolk existing industry base.”

In her new role, Holt will work with businesses and industries during the site selection and permitting processes. She also will manage workforce development and small business development programs in the city.

Holt graduated from Christopher Newport University with a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in business. Following her graduation, she worked for Carroll’s Food of Virginia for five years, working her way up to the position of human resources assistant.

She began working for the city in 2000 and became the business development analyst in September 2002.

“I am thrilled about my new position, and I look forward to continuing my relationships with all the wonderful businesses that currently call Suffolk home,” Holt said.

She began her new duties this week.
