Bishop James Edwards Rodgers departed this life on Wednesday, November 24, 2010.
He was born on Feb. 19, 1940, the son of the late William Taylor and Ruby Rodgers of Gates County, N.C. He received his education in Gates County. He was a resident of Suffolk for many years.
Bishop Rodgers leaves to cherish his memories his wonderful, dedicated and beloved wife of 52 years, Ada L. Rodgers; three sons, James Tyrone Rodgers (Janice) of Newport News, Apostle Gary Wendell Rodgers (Faultine) of Suffolk, Reginald Eugene Rodgers (Suzette) of Augusta, Ga.; a beautiful daughter, Evangelist Ruby N. Rodgers of Newport News; three brothers, Ashley Taylor (Gloria) of Gatesville, N.C., William Taylor (Alfreda) of Silver Springs, MD, and Cecil Taylor (Yvonne) of Stone Mountain, GA; a favorite aunt, Lonnie Briggs (J.B.); step-mother, Nazarene Taylor; an adopted sister, Gloria Holmes of Brooklyn, N.Y., and a special extended family, The Watsons; 19 grandchildren, four great-grand children, and a host of nieces, nephews, and some very faithful friends and neighbors.
A wake will be held Nov. 28, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at New Life Outreach Ministry on Jackson Road in Suffolk. A funeral will be held Monday, November 29, at noon at New Paul’s Temple Holiness Church on Hosier Road in Suffolk.
Professional services will be provided by Crocker Funeral Home.
