A 31-year-old North Carolina woman died on Sunday after losing control of her vehicle and striking a tree in the 7100 block of Whaleyville Boulevard.

Niki J. Nuas of Winton, N.C., was traveling southbound on Whaleyville Boulevard in a 2001 Ford Focus when she ran off the road on the right, according to Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George. Nuas’ vehicle re-entered the roadway, but left it again traveling backwards and then hit a tree, George said in a press release.

Nuas died at the scene.

Police do not believe weather conditions contributed to the accident, but they are not sure what caused Nuas to lose control, George stated.
