Tourism department website gets upgrade

A new Suffolk tourism website to complement the department’s new brick-and-mortar location went live recently.
The revamped virtual presence features much of the same information as the old site but presents it in a cleaner, easier-to-read format and includes some new features.
“While we have hosted Suffolk-Fun.com for several years, the makeover complements our physical renovation and our focused effort to attract groups,” said Theresa Earles, tourism development coordinator.
One new feature of the site is an entire section dedicated to helping plan conferences, weddings or simply leisurely trips to the city.
“It is a toolkit for travelers and meeting planners preparing for a leisurely stay, a conference, reunion or wedding,” Earles said.
The renovated physical building at 524 N. Main St. was officially opened with a ribbon cutting last month. The old Nansemond County courthouse was repurposed to become the Visitor Center, complete with a gift shop, visitor lounge and information center, and offices for the tourism department.
Coming soon to the new website will be an expanded events calendar, a photo library and a press room.
The physical location is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The online presence, of course, is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
