Nansemond River split its first two games in the Crescent Bank Holiday Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Monday and Tuesday.
The Lady Warriors had to bounce back with a little more than 12 hours between contests after a 75-44 loss to the hometown school, Myrtle Beach, late Monday night at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
NR (5-1) regrouped to defeat Marion (S.C.) 61-47 Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Warriors outscored Marion 38-25 in the second half and forced 27 turnovers for the game by the Lady Swamp Foxes.
Center Lisa Sharpe led NR in scoring in both games with 15 points. She added 11 rebounds and two blocks versus Marion.
Also in Tuesday’s win, Cierra Mobley had 11 points, six rebounds and three steals. Jenel Cannon had 10 points and five assists.
Nansemond River bested Myrtle Beach two seasons ago in the same event. Myrtle Beach ran out to a 39-19 lead by halftime of Monday’s game.
Oddly, Nansemond River’s next matchup in Myrtle Beach could easily take place in Suffolk or Norfolk. The Lady Warriors face Norfolk Christian Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. The Nansemond River vs. Norfolk Christian winner will get one more game Thursday; the loser will be done for the tournament.
