Suffolk rescue workers investigate an accident scene on Pruden Boulevard where a local man died Tuesday morning.

A 49-year-old Suffolk man is dead following a two-car accident that took place around 9 a.m. Tuesday on Pruden Boulevard.

Police said Tuesday afternoon that David W. Williams of the 3000 block of Catalina Avenue died at the scene of the accident.

He had been a passenger in a 2001 Chevrolet that was making a left turn from Pruden onto Providence Road when it was struck by a 2007 Ford Mustang that had been traveling eastbound on Pruden, according to a press release from Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George.

The Chevrolet was then pushed into a telephone pole.

The woman who was driving the Chevrolet was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A female passenger in the Ford was treated and released from Sentara Obici Hospital. The man who was driving that vehicle was not injured, according to police.

The accident closed the road completely for about an hour, and then it reopened with traffic alternating directions in a lane, until about 1:40 p.m., when the road was completely reopened, George said.

The accident remains under investigation.
