Anne Parker Carr, 90, passed away Jan. 2, 2011 at home. She was the daughter of the late Jesse Piland and Charles Thomas Parker. She was the widow of James A. Carr Jr.

She was an active member of Holy Neck Christian Church. She was previously a member of Holland Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Board of Deacons, choir, WMU and church building committee. She was a graduate of Holland High School and the Norfolk School of Business. She was secretary and treasurer of the Holland Peanut Company, secretary of Ad Products Co., and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years, retiring as the Holland Station manager in 1983.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Truitt Umphlett, and brother, George D. Parker. Her memories live on with her son, James Thomas Carr, and her daughter and son-in-law, LuAnne and Bryan LaPoint, of Suffolk; four grandchildren, James Lewis LaPoint and wife, Jennifer, John Arthur Carr, Matthew Bryan LaPoint and Ashley Nicole LaPoint; sister, Dora Parker Horton, of Suffolk; brothers, John Newman Parker, of Colonial Heights, Va., and William Jesse Parker, of Tazewell, Va.; nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Anne DeKlever.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with the Rev. Reggie Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home of LuAnne LaPoint.
