A Suffolk man is dead following an early morning, single-vehicle accident on Saturday on Copeland Road.

George Allen Stovall, 73, of Chappell Drive, died after being ejected from his Nissan pickup truck as it rolled several times in an accident on icy roads, according to Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George.

George said Monday that Stovall had run off the road on the right and then overcorrected, crossing the roadway and striking a ditch, which sent his truck rolling. The accident happened sometime between 6:30 and 7 a.m., she said.

Stovall, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the truck, which police estimate was traveling about 60 miles per hour at the time of the crash. He died at the scene.

Although the roads were slick at the time of the accident, police were not yet sure of the cause of the crash, and the investigation continues, George said Monday.
