Donation makes a difference at Creekside

PTA President Leila Baccouche-Nadeau hands a donated lunch to first-grade teacher and PTA Secretary Susan Markham recently at Creekside Elementary School.

To the editor:

We would like to express our sincere gratitude and thanks to Dan Curran, owner of the North Suffolk Chick-Fil-A for his recent donation to our Staff Lunch Fundraiser.

Fundraising is a very important part of the PTA. Without the fundraising opportunities, the PTA would not be able to provide our children with additional programs and opportunities to enhance their learning experience. Individuals and businesses play an important role in helping the PTA achieve its mission and vision of making every child’s potential a reality.

In December, Mr. Curran had agreed to give us chicken sandwiches for the fundraiser at a very low reduced cost. We did the fundraiser for the staff right before Winter Break.

The day we called to confirm the total for the pre-ordered lunches, WOW did he have a true gift for us! Just before the call was concluded, he mentioned so graciously, “We will be donating all 50 sandwiches and 50 bags of chips at no charge”. Can you say speechless? We still have not found enough words to thank him. His donation, along with an additional soda donation, allowed the Staff Lunch Fundraiser to bring in $250.

The goal of the Creekside PTA is to continue to make a difference in the lives of our children and the community. With the help of donations from supporters and individuals such as Dan Curran we will continue to see improvements in the community as a whole.

At and during each fundraising event, we are so amazed and humbled by the numbers of volunteers who come out and participate in doing their part. When asked, many volunteers will respond they are simply giving back to their community.

Parental participation in events is also a way to teach young children the gift of giving to others, in turn giving us the confidence that one day they will lead our community and continue the tradition of “giving back.”
