On the morning of Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, an angel of the Lord carried our beloved Thomas “Bubba” Simmons, 56, of 1400 Sierra Drive, to his heavenly home. He was born on July 5, 1954 in Suffolk, Va., to the late Thomas Goodman and the late Rosa Lee Goodman.

He was a member of New Paul’s Temple Holiness Church of Deliverance.

Remaining to cherish his memory is his significant other, Joyce Edwards; four daughters, Gwendolyn Bond (John), Tammy Hunt (Douglas), Jacqueline Edwards (Mark) and Thomasine Santana (Emmanuel); three sons, Marchello Edwards (Cynthia), Melvin Edwards (April) and Adam Edwards (Cheryl); four sisters, Delois Slaughter, Janie Gates-Moore (Glen), Alfleta Gail Parker (Roy) and Lillian Bond; five brothers, George Simmons (Wilma), Randolph Simmons, Lepolda Simmons, Linwood Simmons and Alvester Simmons; aunt, Mae Moore; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a devoted niece, Michelle Slaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Simmons will be on view from noon to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at the funeral home. The family will receive guests at the residence at all other times. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at New Paul’s Temple Holiness Church of Deliverance. He will be laid to rest in the T.E. Cooke-Overton Garden of Carver Memorial Cemetery.
