Clarence William Burton, 89, passed away at his residence on Feb. 4, 2011. He was the son of the late Leslie T. and Flossie Burton and the widower of the late Dorothy Anne H. Burton.

Born in Richmond, Va., Clarence served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of World War II. He was a charter member of the Nansemond Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad. He worked for the city of Suffolk for 30 years as a codes inspector.

He is survived by his daughter, Christine B. Ward; son, Clarence W. Burton Jr. and wife Diana, of Spotsylvania, Va.,; grandchildren, Douglas Ward, Lee Anne Ward, Jonathan Burton and Hayley Burton.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, VA 23434 by the Rev. Robert J.
