Jaevantae Artis, of the 400 block of Broad Street, was arrested Friday on two counts of indecent liberties with a minor and two counts of stalking.

Artis is accused of exposing himself to 14- and 16-year-old students at King’s Fork in the classroom and on the school bus between November and January, according to city spokeswoman Debbie George. He also is charged with following the female students around at school before and after he exposed himself to them.

George said the incidents were only recently reported to school officials, who notified police of the accusations.

Artis currently is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail with no bond.

According to Bethanne Bradshaw, spokeswoman for Suffolk Public Schools, administrators have recommended Artis for expulsion.

Before the criminal charges were filed, the school division had conducted its own disciplinary process, Bradshaw added. At that time, Artis was referred to the daytime alternative program at Turlington Woods and recommended to receive counseling services.
