McAdoo now becomes one of two people representing Virginia on the advisory council. She is filling out someone else’s unexpired term.

The bank offers competitive financing, community development grants and other banking services to help member financial institutions make affordable mortgages and provide economic development credit to neighborhoods and communities. It is one of 12 district banks in the Federal Home Loan Bank System.

“I’ve seen this request a number of times over the years,” McAdoo said. “A lot of times, we are always looking for someone else to step in and serve, [but] I thought that I would be what I was looking for.”

Before coming to Suffolk, McAdoo led community development initiatives at the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

Though McAdoo said she has enough to keep her busy with the day-to-day business of the housing authority, she felt the responsibility to serve.

“I feel real good about the staff I have around me,” she said.

McAdoo and the other council members will meet quarterly to make recommendations to the board of directors regarding its programs and products relating to affordable housing.

Her term will expire in December 2012. She will continue to work in Suffolk while holding the part-time volunteer position.
