SUFFOLK — James Rudolph Carter, 80, went to be with the lord Feb. 22, 2011. He was born in Nansemond County to the late Grace and James M. Carter. He was predeceased by his brother, Randy L. Carter.

Rudolph was retired from the Ford Motor Company and from the Suffolk City Schools. He was a member of Trinity Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the TPA Association.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy R. Carter; son, Wayne Carter and wife, Rose, of Southern Shores, N.C.; grandchildren, Jon Carter and wife, Nikki, of Waipahu, Hawaii, and Heather C. and husband, Dustin Daniels, of Southern Shores, N.C.; great-granddaughter, Breeze N. Daniels; a great-grandson on the way; several nieces and nephews, with one special niece, Cindy Luter; and sister-in-law, Nancy Carter.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, by the Rev. Byron McCreary, the Rev. Dustin Daniels, the Rev. Dolan Talbert and the Rev. Bert Pearce with burial in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
