NORFOLK — Cynthia Dale Baines Birkel, 63, of Norfolk, Va., passed away Feb. 24, 2011. She is the daughter of Evelyn Bryant Baines and the late David “Dick” Baines. She is also predeceased by her husband, Bernard Birkel. She retired after 33 years of service from the Defense Finance Accounting Service, Department of the Navy.

Cynthia is survived by her mother; sister and brother-in-law, Denise Baines Adams and Mitchell “Bud” Adams, of Chesapeake, Va.; niece, Kimberly O. McClanahan and husband, Adam; great-nephews, Mason Paul Oldfield and Noah Michael McClanahan; nephew, Wesley Scott Adams; great-niece, Adrianna Adams; and her lifelong friend, Pat Harmon Coleman.
