Lakeland junior Rausheeim Thompson runs his leg of the 4x200-meter relay for the Cavaliers. The Cavs finished second in the relay and second overall as a team at the VHSL Group AAA State Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday in Hampton.

After finishing fourth overall in the Eastern Region Championships and fifth in the 10-school Southeastern District, Lakeland’s boys track team took home second in the state in the VHSL (Virginia High School League) Group AAA State Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.

The Cavaliers had competitors in only six events but had top-five finishes in five of the six events.

Junior Anaquan Peterson was the individual standout for the Cavaliers, earning half of the team’s 36 points through his state championship in the long jump and second-place finish in the triple jump. Peterson then was the anchor leg of the Cavalier 4×200-meter relay team that finished runner-up to Indian River for the third straight meet.
