Resident injured in house fire

Suffolk firefighters battle a house fire on Battery Avenue Tuesday morning.

One occupant was seriously injured in a house fire in the 600 block of Battery Avenue Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews received the call about 9:30 a.m. Two engines and a ladder truck from Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the fire, which was brought under control quickly, according to a press release from a city spokeswoman.

One resident was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital and flown by Nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He is in critical condition.

The Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
