Even self respect takes a hit

To the editor:

Your editorial “Learning proper respect,” in the March 23, 2011, edition, was right on, but in my humble opinion, you missed one important point — respect for one’s self.

Lack of self-respect not only permeates our youthful population, but it pervades the whole of society. Just look at the dress.

Grown men sit at meals in restaurants wearing their baseball caps. Shoppers roam the aisles in the grocery stores wearing their bed clothing, hair uncombed and often hanging in dirty greasy hanks.

A neatly tucked shirt tail seems a thing of the past, and I haven’t even touched on the female population, which seems to be under the impression that the more skin they show, the more attractive they are, regardless of girth.

Nice manners and consideration for others? Paaahhh!!! Those ideas are gone the way of the tucked shirt.
