Mary V. Thompson, 83, of 207 Clay St., Suffolk, Va., passed away Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Autumn Care of Suffolk. She was a native of Suffolk and the daughter of the late Willie Briggs and Celestine Thompson Jackson. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gracie L. Thompson Cash; three sisters, Audrey Williams, Catherine J. Mazell and Mildred D. Jackson; three brothers, Billy Earl Jackson, James E. Jackson and Edward A. Thompson.
She attended Nansemond County Schools. She was a member of First Baptist Church Mahan Street. Ms. Thompson retired from domestic work.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three brothers, Melvin Jackson (Rachel), Charles Jackson (Gloria Jean) and Ronald Jackson (Inesia); sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jackson and Shirley Thompson; granddaughter, Phala M. Grant-Milteer; grandson; James E. Cash Jr.; great-grandchildren, Shyla Jones, Shyanne Jones, Jayla Cash, Justin Cash and Breyani Valentine; a very devoted and special godchild, Carolyn Greene; devoted nieces, Jackie Mazell and Lisa Askew; special nephew, Melvin Jackson Jr.; very close lifetime friends, Oree Stokes, Ernestine Langston, of Suffolk, Earlene Green, of Portsmouth, Va., and Otis Richards, of Suffolk; and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, April 8, 2011 at First Baptist Church Mahan Street, officiated by Dr. Steven G. Blunt. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Phala M. Grant-Milteer, 207 Clay St., Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
