Soul Steppers on the move

The Hampton Roads Soul Steppers line dance group is on the move and in the groove.

On Saturday, members participated in the line-dancing portion of a health fair held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk, from noon to 4 p.m.

Later that night from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., the group also performed at the “Fling into Spring” dance event, showcasing two of the latest, hottest new line dances.

HRSS includes about 74 members ranging from ages 20 to 75 from cities in the Hampton Roads area. The group is headed by dance instructor Linda Gray of Chesapeake, and some dances are assisted by members Mark and Evelyn Wall from Suffolk.

Last Sunday, from 12:30 to 1 a.m. on WTVZ-TV, Channel 33, the group was shown performing line dances on a program called “Grown Folks Dancing,” which was taped on March 13 at the Comfort Zone Restaurant and Lounge in Hampton. This program will be aired again on Sunday at 12:30 a.m.

On April 30 from 5 to 8 p.m., the group will perform line dances at a Hand and Line Dance Expo event at the Roger Brown’s Restaurant, 316 High St. in Portsmouth. The event is open to the public and will include audience participation in hand and line dancing.
