In support of school librarians

To the editor:
In support of April as Library School Media Month, I am writing to say thank you to all the school media specialists hard at work.
Many people probably feel that a school librarian sits at the circulation desk scanning library books in and out. This is far from true.
I aspire to be a school media specialist one day and have learned a great deal about the profession. The mission of the school library program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information by empowering them to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
The school library is a vital part of the school. The library provides teachers and students with a plethora of resources, including technology, databases, books for pleasure and research and many more wonderful tools.
I am writing to thank our school librarians for all the work they do. It is important that the community understand the need for school libraries to continue to impact students in the 21st century.
