CHESAPEAKE — Louis Bullock, 93, passed away peacefully at his son’s residence in Chesapeake, Va. Louis was born Oct. 25, 1917, to the late Charlie and Mamie Bullock of Tarboro, N.C. He was raised in Suffolk, Va., and was a World War II veteran. He retired from the federal government after 37 years of dutiful service. He was an expert gardener, jack of all trades, and a friend and mentor to many.

He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church, where he served as a dedicated deacon for over 50 years. He was a devoted husband and steadfast father of 12 children.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty M. Bullock; daughter, Shirley E. Alford; and son, Michael E. Bullock.

He is survived by sons, Joe Bullock, of Philadelphia, Pa., David Bullock (Marie), of Suffolk, Harvey Bullock (Fannie), of Chesapeake, James Bullock (Mary), of Fredericksburg, Kenneth Bullock (Grace), of Lorton, and Steven Bullock (Kim), of Suffolk; daughters, Mable Stills, of Baltimore, Md., Betty Bynum (Steve), of Chesapeake, Gwen Davis (Eugene), of Hampton, and Christine Mack (Jimmie), of Newport News; brothers, Spear Bullock (Mary), of Dale City, Clarence Bullock, of Suffolk, and Thomas Bullock, of Suffolk; daughter-in-law, Elvira Bullock, of Hampton; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many dedicated friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Canaan Baptist Church, 2064 Nansemond Parkway, Suffolk, officiated by the Rev. Vernon W. Hairston.
