Cheryl Annette Shelton, 52, of Franklin, died Monday, April 18, 2011, at her residence.

She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late John H. Shelton and Lucille Shelton. She was preceded in death by her sister, Audrey M. Jordan, and a brother, Charles Shelton.

She attended Norfolk State University and received two certificates from Paul D. Camp Community College. She was employed at Paul D. Camp Community College as a computer specialist and had worked there more than 20 years.

She was a member of New Life Church in Franklin, where she was a part-time secretary, a member of the hospitality ministry, praise dance ministry, flag ministry, armor bearers ministry and Angel Food ministry.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two brothers, Spencer Mayfield Jr. (Dr. Carolyn), of Suffolk, and Christopher Shelton; three nieces, Kerrita Mayfield, Karrin M. Jones (Crigh) and Kellie Mayfield; a godsister, Renee Dickson; other relatives and a host of friends.

A funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2011, at New Life Church, 1101 Johnson Circle, Franklin, officiated by the Rev. Sherry Saunders. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

A wake will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of Spencer Mayfield, 1342 Cherokee Court, Suffolk.
