Former Warrior leading Florida State League

Nansemond River alum Greg Sexton is leading the Florida State League in runs batted in and has a 12-game hitting streak going with the Charlotte (Fla.) Stone Crabs, a single-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Sexton, Charlotte’s starting third baseman, has driven in 21 RBI in 18 games through the first part of the Stone Crab season.

Charlotte won 11-5 at the Fort Myers Miracle (Minnesota) on Monday night with Sexton tallying two doubles, two runs and six RBI. Sexton’s hitting .375 with five doubles, one triple and one home run for the season.

After graduating and playing four seasons at William and Mary, Sexton was drafted by Tampa Bay in June 2007. Last season, between Charlotte and the double-A Montgomery Biscuits, Sexton hit .258 with 22 doubles, three homers and 51 RBI.
