Come see some lovely, not-so-ladylike beauty queens get all dolled up for the Womanless Beauty Pageant Saturday at 7 p.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, located at 1589 Steeple Drive.

About 15 men, including Ebenezer pastors and church members, will dress to impress in women’s fashions for the event. Each contestant will get a chance to strut his stuff for the guests and collect money in purses from audience members.

The contestant who collects the most money in his purse will be crowned queen of the night.

Betty Lamonea, one of the event’s coordinators, said this is the first time the church has held this type of event, and she doesn’t know what to expect.

“Many of the older people are thinking we’re crazy, but we’re trying it,” she said. “It’s a fun time.”

The event is a joint fundraiser for the church and for Hope and Happiness, an organization that helps young adults with physical and mental disabilities.

The organization coordinates events, such as dances, to help about 140 young adults bond and form friendships.

All the profits from the evening will be divided between Ebenezer and the organization.

Nancy Grizzard, who also helped coordinate the event, said a fundraising goal had not been set, but she hopes to make $2,000.

She said she hopes organizers will raise enough money to help fund a trip on the Carrie B in Norfolk for Hope and Happiness participants.

“It’s their absolute favorite thing to do,” she said.

Tickets will be available at the door. They are $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Bring plenty of $1 bills to vote for your favorite contestant.
