Ms. Mandy Delois “Puddin” Smith Shepherd was born Jan. 31, 1953, and went into eternal rest on May 17, 2011. A native of Suffolk, Va., Ms. Shepherd is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Alice W. Smith; her sister, Irene Foreman; her brother, William H. Foreman; and her son, Albert C. Shepherd Jr. (Scooby).

Ms. Shepherd was a 1971 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. She was a faithful member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the Home Missions, the Women’s Ministry, the J.R. Wilkerson’s Ushers’ Ministry, and the Albert C. Shepherd Jr. Scholarship Committee. Ms. Shepherd was a member of Brighton Light Chapter No. 118 (Order of the Eastern Star) of Portsmouth, Va. She was also a member of the management team for the Wal-Mart Corporation.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Kevin Maurice Shepherd Sr., of Suffolk, Va.; one sister, Sylvia A. Childs, of Suffolk, Va.; one sister-in-law, Ruth Hurd Foreman, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and niece, Mattie Rodgers (Alvin), of Suffolk, Va. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011, at noon at Oak Grove Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Anthony Copeland. The processional will assemble at 1161 Nansemond Parkway. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements confided to the care of Crocker Funeral Home.
