Suffolk police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred in a city parking lot in broad daylight on Saturday.

The victim reported he had been walking in the Cherry Street parking lot, off South Saratoga Street, about 3 p.m. Saturday when an unknown black male approached him, put a gun in his face and demanded money, city spokeswoman Debbie George said.

The victim slapped the gun out of his face, and the suspect proceeded to strike him in the head with it and kick him, George said.

The victim ultimately gave the suspect his wallet. The suspect then ran from the area.

The only description police have to work with is a black male, George said.
