Saints make all-state

Nansemond-Suffolk senior Kelsey Ritter made her fifth straight VIS All-State Team this season for the Lady Saints, who finished the season 19-5 and in the state tournament quarterfinals. Ritter, a pitcher/shortstop for NSA, is going to Winthrop and will likely be a shortstop or third baseman at the college level.
Two Lady Saints were named to the all-state team for softball recently.
NSA senior Kelsey Ritter hit .648 with 44 runs, 23 runs batted in, 11 doubles, seven triples and four homers this season. On the mound, Ritter went 9-2 with a 1.46 earned runs average and 62 strikeouts in 48 innings. Mears, a freshman catcher and leadoff hitter for the Lady Saints, made no errors on the season. At the plate, Mears hit .701 with 43 runs, 22 RBI, 13 stolen bases, 10 doubles and eight triples.

Nansemond-Suffolk freshman catcher and leadoff hitter Macy Mears made the Virginia Independent Schools Second Team All-State Team. Mears also earned first team honors in the Tidewater Conference.
