Register for Relay golf tourney

The deadline to participate in the 2011 Suffolk Relay for Life golf tournament is fast approaching.

Registrations must be received by Wednesday for the tournament, which will benefit the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser.

The tournament will be held June 24 at Sleepy Hole Golf Course. Registration begins at 7 a.m., with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The cost for an individual is $75 and cost for a team of four members is $300. There will be door prizes and a variety of awards. A full steak lunch with all the trimmings will be provided for all players at the close of the tournament.

Since 1985, the Relay for Life has brought together millions of volunteers to honor cancer survivors, pay tribute to the lives lost to the disease and raise money to help find a cure.

Get discounted tickets to theme parks

Suffolk residents can get discounted theme park tickets at Suffolk Parks and Recreation.

The tickets have restrictions on the days they are valid. They can be purchased at the Suffolk Parks and Recreation administrative office, 134 S. Sixth St. For more information, call 514-7250.

Busch Gardens tickets:

4Fun Cards are $61 (for Virginia residents only) — valid through Sept. 5.

4Discount Days (age 3-9) are $39 — valid through Sept. 6.

4Discount Days (age 10 & up) are $49 — valid through Sept. 6.

Water Country USA tickets:

4Summer Sizzler Pass is $46 — valid through Sept. 5; pay once and go all summer.

4Discount Days (age 3-9) are $31 — valid through Sept. 6.

4Discount Days (ages 10 & up) are $37 — valid through Sept. 6.

Kings Dominion tickets:

4Parks and Recreation Days are $32 — valid through Aug. 6.

4Good Any Day Pass (Jr./Sr.) are $32 (Ages 3 to 61 and under 48” tall or ages 62 and older) — valid any operating day

Kamusta ang buhay? Learn to say “how’s life?” in Tagalog, the official language of the Philippines, when you attend an exciting night of international travel at North Suffolk Library on June 26 at 6:30 p.m.

Araceli Suzara, director of the Filipino American Center at Old Dominion University, will guide a tour of the Philippine Islands, all from the comfort of your own chair. Hike up Mount Apo, travel around Manila in a jeepney, even feast on adobo and lumpia. No passport is required — just a love of travel and new experiences.

Children’s chorus

auditions coming up

Sing with the Virginia Children’s Chorus in time for the group’s 20th anniversary season.

The Virginia Children’s Chorus will hold auditions for new students for the 2011-2012 season on June 11, 14 and 21 and Aug. 27, 29 and 30. Auditions will be at Talbot Park Baptist Church, 6919 Granby St., Norfolk. Auditions must be scheduled in advance by calling 440-9100.

Boys and girls entering grades 1 to 12, from young beginners to serious high school singers, are welcome. Special group try-outs are now available for children entering grades 1 through 3. Students receive excellent voice training and perform in concert while making new friends and having fun.
