Mr. Thurman L. Battle Sr., 73, of 2212 Stuart Ave., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday June 14, 2011. He was born on Nov. 9, 1937, to the late Charlie and Lucile Battle. He was a native of Edgecombe County, N.C.

He was predeceased by his sister, Lucyrené Wiggins.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 50 years, Sylvia Jordan Battle; four daughters, Marilyn Smith (Bernard), of Tarboro, N.C., Cynthia Wright (James), Nadine Allmond and Natalie Hyman (LaVelton), all of Suffolk, Va.; one son, Thurman Battle Jr. (fiancée Angela), of Suffolk, Va.; one sister, Shirley Anderson (Joe), of Tarboro, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Battle will be on view at the funeral home on Friday, June 17, from noon to 8 p.m. A home going service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at noon at Healing Chapel Baptist Church, 2375 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk, VA 23434, the Rev. Morris Allmond Sr., pastor. He will be laid to rest in the T.E. Cooke-Overton Garden of Carver Memorial Cemetery.
