Luther J. Blizzard — brother, uncle, godfather, cousin and friend — entered into peaceful eternal slumber at his residence in Hampton on Thursday, July 7, 2011.

Born the fifth child of the late Martin and Virginia Blizzard, he was preceded in death by his wife, Magnolia Mayo Blizzard, and his siblings Joseph, Thora, Odessa, Martin and Patrick. Blizzard was born in the Holland area of Suffolk and educated in the Nansemond County Public Schools.

Luther’s wise and gentle spirit led him to become a devoted and much-loved member of First Baptist Church, East End. He loved his church and became a member of the Ushers Ministry, the Male Chorus and the Mass Choir.

Luther leaves to mourn his pleasant and loving memory two sisters, Freddie B. Adkins and Doris B. Rawls of Suffolk; one sister-in-law, Gladiolia W. Blizzard of Douglasville, Ga.; a devoted niece, Jacquelyn A. McQueen of Hampton; a godson, Frederick A. Harrison Jr. of Lawrenceville and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held from noon until 6 p.m., Monday, July 11, 2011, at Cooke Brothers Funeral Chapel. A memorial celebration will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at First Baptist Church, East End, with the Rev. W.J. Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
