Former Nansemond-Suffolk (class of 2005) and North Carolina St. (2009) golf standout Lauren Doughtie missed the cut in the 66th U.S. Women’s Open Championship Saturday at The Broadmoor (par 71, 7,047 yards) in Colorado Springs, Col.
Doughtie shot rounds of 80 on Thursday and 81 on Friday and Saturday as rain delayed play at times through the first two days of the tournament.
Doughtie’s lone birdie in the two rounds came on the 339-yard second hole in the second round.
It was the second U.S. Open for Doughtie, who’s now a pro on the LPGA Futures Tour. In 2008, Doughtie made the U.S. Open as an amateur. Both times, she made it through local and sectional qualifying events to reach the Championship. This year, Doughtie was one of two golfers to advance through sectional qualifying in Sanford, N.C.
