The East Region team finished with silver medals in a four-game, three-day all-star tournament for the best 15-17-year old ballplayers in the Commonwealth at the Coventry Commonwealth Games July 8-10 in Salem. Nansemond River’s Tyler Brown and Ryan O’Hara were on the East team and NR coach Mark Stuffel was an assistant coach.

Following the Warrior run to the Southeastern District Tournament title and the state quarterfinals this past baseball season, Nansemond River was well-represented among the state’s best underclassmen players in an all-star tournament at the Coventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia last weekend in Salem.

Rising seniors Tyler Brown and Ryan O’Hara were on the field for the East region team that fell in the final game to bring home silver medals.

Four regional squads, made up of top freshmen, sophomores and juniors around the commonwealth, played a three-day tournament.

Brown is a utility player and leads off for the Warriors, playing mostly at second base, outfield or pitcher. O’Hara is Nansemond River’s starting centerfielder.

Nansemond River head coach Mark Stuffel was an assistant coach for the East. York High School’s Rusty Ingram was the head coach. Ingram surpassed 400 victories as a high school coach this spring.

The baseball tournament preceded the main portion of the Commonwealth Games, hosted in and around Roanoke this weekend.
