The deadline is fast approaching for students who want to prepare to be future investigators — or just have a little fun while learning.
The Suffolk Police Department’s sixth annual Junior CSI Forensics Camp is set for Aug. 23-25. Instructed by Joan Jones, the forensic unit supervisor, and other staff members, the camp teaches children entering the seventh and eighth grades how to document a crime scene, gather clues and test evidence. They will improve their math, critical-thinking and teamwork skills while still having fun.
After learning how to dust for fingerprints and take a footprint impression, the students will investigate their own mock crime scene.
The camp will be held Aug. 23-25, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, at the Health and Human Services Building, 135 Hall Ave. The camp is open to rising seventh- and eighth-graders, and there is a $40 registration fee to cover the cost of materials, including a camp T-shirt.
The deadline for registration is Aug. 12. Space is limited to 24 students, so get your applications in soon. For more information, call 514-7940.
