James Lewis Rhodes, 61, of 305 S. Division St., Suffolk, Va., died Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Halifax County, N.C., and the son of the late Richard Lee Rhodes Sr. and Ruth Morris Rhodes.
He attended John F. Kennedy High School. He was employed with Smithfield Foods. James was a member of St. Marks AME Zion Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Patricia Rhodes, of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Darnita Scott, of Baltimore, Md. and Pamela Bradshaw (Tiff), of Catonsville, Md.; two sons, James Rhodes (Dawn), of Nottingham, Md. and Brian Rhodes (Jasmine), of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Iris Baker and the Rev. Linda Stevenson (James), both of Suffolk; two brothers, Richard Rhodes Jr., of Suffolk, and Clarence Rhodes, of Fort Riley, Kan.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; aunts, Dorothy Barlow and Irene Morris, of Leggett, and Flossie Stella Rhodes, of Suffolk; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at St. Mark AME Zion Church, officiated by the Rev. Willmers Williams. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 815 McKinley Ave. The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
