Mr. Samuel Harris of Tazewell Street, Portsmouth, departed this earthly life on Aug. 1, 2011.
He was a native of Suffolk. He was employed with VDOT for over 25 years. He attended Southampton Public Schools. He was predeceased by his parents, Elbert and Eldred Harris.
His survivors include one son, Samuel Harris Jr.; one granddaughter, Delanic Harris, of Suffolk; two sisters, Evelyn Everette (Johnnie), of Alexandria, Va., and Queen Ratcliff, of Suffolk; four brothers, Elbert Harris Jr. (Rosa), of Portsmouth, Charles Harris (Pastor Virginia Harris), Ophus Harris, of Suffolk, and Elroy Harris (Rose), of Richmond; four aunts, Isabell Williams and Ruby Johnson, of Jamaica, N.Y., Odessa Harris and Ruth Johnson, of Suffolk, a dedicated aunt and cousin, Lisa Harris.
A funeral of triumph will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the New Paul Temple Hosier Road, by officiants Pastor Catherine Skinner and Pastor Virginia L. Harris. Visitation will be on Friday from noon to 6 p.m. at the funeral home and on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
